Quoted for timing chain work on my 3.6, do I fix it or cut my losses?
-
My 2014 Wrangler has around 165k on it and the garage reckons the timing chain is stretched based on the noise and a code they pulled. The quote isn't small, and I'm sitting here wondering whether it's worth putting that kind of money into a car this age or if I should just sell it while it still runs. The annoying part is the rest of the car is solid, no rust, suspension is fresh, and I actually like driving it. I stumbled on jeepservicemussafah.ae/blog/jeep-pentastar-36l-engine-problems-repair-guide while trying to work out how common this job is on the Pentastar, and it made me realise I don't really know if this is a one time fix or the start of a slippery slope. Has anyone here had timing chain work done on a high mileage 3.6? Did it sort things out long term or did other problems follow? I'd rather hear from people who've actually been through it than guess.
